Sabri Idrus is a visionary young contemporary artist, recognized as one of the country’s important emerging artists. His art aims at liberating what he sees as the socio-cultural dogma in the visual language of Malaysian art. He combines painting with graphic design and industrial materials, an attempt to reinvent new forms, symbolisms, and visual language.

Sabri is a versatile artist whose portfolio of works includes not only paintings, but also graphic design, multimedia and video, publications, plus sculptures and installations. He recently had a successful exhibition held at the renowned Saatchi Gallery in London, under the curated section of the inaugural Start Art Fair 2014.

The art piece on exhibit for the Singapore Art Fair 2014 was originally featured in the artist’s 2012 solo exhibition “Antara”. It is a study of lines, surface and form, devoid of specific narrative but instead conveys the materiality of the work itself; the material in itself transforms to become the content.
