A young child can be likened to a sponge, absorbing all kinds of sensory experiences that take place around her or him. A child learns by using all senses at their disposal, including listening and visually observing the world around them, and often it comes as a shock to parents when they discover that their child has knowledge about certain things they either didn’t explicitly teach the young person, or had no intention of exposing them to at a young age. In today’s world, it is not unusual to see parents rely on electronic gadgets to keep their children occupied, what some refer to as “electronic nannies”. In today’s age of media overload what a child can learn from their access to the digital world is virtually limitless, and the influence of what is learned, if not guided, may not always result in positive outcomes.
