04 Jul Official Opening: mea cuppa
mea cuppa officially opened yesterday, July 3, and we were honored with the presence of Dato’ Mohd Yusof Ahmad, Director General of the Balai Seni Visual Negara (National Visual Arts Gallery), who had graciously agreed to be our guest of honor.
Also present at the official opening was Mr. Christophe Wyss, Senior Brand Manager for Nescafé® Dolce Gusto™, the focal point for the launch event on June 7, when the art jamming session took place at The Bee @ Publika. As we mentioned in an earlier posting, it was during this art jam that the fifteen young artists produced the art works on display in this exhibition.
Dato’ Yusof, in his opening speech, remarked that Balai Seni Visual Negara (BSVN) lauded such initiatives for young artists, as it provided them a platform to express themselves, and having an exhibition featuring their works further bolsters the artists’ confidence. This helps tremendously as they build their careers as artists. Dato’ Yusof also remarked that private sector initiatives like this were needed to create a more vibrant Malaysian art scene.
Most of the fifteen participating artists who took part in the art jamming session were present at the opening, and Artemis Art would once again like to thank them for their participation. The fifteen young artists are:
- Amirfirdaus Ahmad Tamizi
- Chia Khoo Hoong
- Fahmi  Taib
- Faiz Yunus
- Hady Aris
- Hafidz Shabri
- Hazul Abu Bakar
- Kenji Chai
- Kharunissa Zainal Abidin
- Mat Ramli Mansor
- Muhammad Akhmal Asyraf
- Nazmi Ismail
- Nur Hanisah Zainal Abidin
- Shahrul Sahee
- T.W. Chang
Members of the media were also present, and we hope that the opening gets good coverage, further providing good exposure to the artists who are participating in this exhibition. Two out of the fifteen paintings were sold, and the remainder shall be available for sale until the end of the exhibition. A portion of the sales proceeds will go to the Matahati Art Fund (MAF).
Thanks, too, to Nescafé® Dolce Gusto™ for providing us with a free-flow of their signature cafe-style beverages during the official opening, which everyone in attendance enjoyed immensely.
