Through imagination and observation, Koo Yean Ni’s art delves into the cultural diversity and intricacies of Malaysia’s rich and diverse cultures.
Inspired by the innocence and naivety of children’s creativity, events are depicted using forms and lines, as seen from the artist’s own perspective. Embracing the many cultural and historical aspects of Malaysiana, each of her works are an investigation into our past and present, using motifs taken from major folk arts from the various cultural groupings in Malaysia.
Yean Ni complements her artistic career by teaching art to young children, whose spontaneity and honest expressiveness continue to be an important inspiration for her works.
