10 Jan Fusion Revival: a solo exhibition by Dennis Liew
It’s 2014 and to usher in the New Year, Artemis Art is proud to present “Fusion Revival“, the debut solo exhibition by artist Dennis Liew, a young 28-year old from Kuala Lumpur. Although Dennis is afflicted with Asperger’s, a high-functioning type of learning difficulty, we see this young man first and foremost as an artist. And it would not be an exaggeration to say that he is already quite accomplished at such a young age.
Combining the techniques of Chinese ink and brush art with elements of the very European post-Impressionist pointillism, Dennis has arrived at a style that we think is quite unique. He calls it “Fusion Revivalismâ€, a term coined by the artist himself, as far as we can tell, and which has contributed to the title for this exhibition.
Dennis defines “Fusion Revivalism” as the use of visual styles that consciously echo the styles of previous art movements, and that has a mixture of both traditional and contemporary modern art.
Covering a multitude of themes, Dennis presents to us his imagined utopia – a serene land that is rich with undisturbed flora and fauna, vibrantly alive with natural features whose magnificence would simply leave us in awe if such places existed. In all, 19 pieces of art will be on display. The exhibition begins on Saturday, January 18 and continues until Sunday, February 16, 2014.

To officially open the exhibition, we are delighted to have Mr. Chong Buck Tee, an artist whose specialization is in the area of Chinese brush painting. The opening will be held at 3pm on Sunday, January 19, 2014. Mr. Chong graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art in 1972. Presently he is the president of the Bakti Art Center, and is a member of the Selangor & Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Shui-Mo Art Society.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dennis on his debut solo exhibition, and wish him all the success as he continues his journey towards one day becoming the famous artist he’s always dreamed to be. It’s been said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. And for Dennis, the journey of achieving his artistic dreams begins with this exhibition.
