Harold Reagan Eswar, or Egn, for short, is a self-trained artist from the state of Sabah. Hailing from the town of Keningau, Egn  has had many different ‘teachers’ in his young career, but where he is today, as an artist, is purely through his own effort, experimenting with new methods and media while he hones his artistic skills. Like many young Malaysians with artistic talent and aspirations, he did not get much support from his family for his passion, and so he academically pursued the closest discipline to art that he could find: Architecture.
Egn started to professionally paint in 2009, and has since been very active in the Sabah art scene. He is a member of the Cracko Art Group based in Kota Kinabalu, a small collective of artists whose aim is to help build a more vibrant artistic environment in their locale. Since starting to paint professionally in 2009, Egn has been very active, participating in numerous exhibitions in both his home state of Sabah, as well as elsewhere in Malaysia. Earlier this year, he had his first solo exhibition in KL.
This young artist aspires to use his art as a means to uplift his community and shape viewpoints on issues of the day that have a direct effect on it, primarily those related to the economy and politics. In a larger sense, Egn sees his artistic endeavor as a means of communication, reaching out not only to those in Sabah, but to those outside his home state. Perhaps, one day, to the world at large.
