Self-reflection, articulated through surrealist pop art, is the current visual signature of young Yogyakarta-based artist I Wayan Sarcita Yasa, or just Sarcita for short. The Bali-born artist is currently pursuing his baccalaureate at the prestigious Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) in Jogja.
Despite still a student he has been actively participating in the city’s dynamic art scene over the past few years, a characteristic typical of students who attend ISI. Although primarily exhibiting within Indonesia, the meticulous execution of his artworks has caught the attention of art enthusiasts internationally.
Sarcita’s pop art style is somewhat unique among the many visual styles within this genre. His works are primarily monochromatic, with other colors judiciously used as highlights. The spatial feel exuding from his works almost informs us that the artist is very much exploring the limits of where his vision can take him and that there is a lot more to look forward to from the depths of his creative spirit.
