Better known in the art scene as Ajim Juxta, Raja Azeem Idzham is a young multi-talented visual artist who’s formal training is in architecture. After graduation Ajim worked as an architect for some three years, before coming to the realization that his true calling was visual art, a realization that eventually lead him to make the decision to become a full-time artist.
His repertoire of works spans several mediums, including pen and ink, found-object sculptures, and paintings on canvas. Like many architects-turned-artists, influences of architecture are apparent, particularly in Ajim’s use of lines and structures in his artworks.
As an artist Ajim Juxta is not afraid to experiment with new media types, or explore new ways of using mediums he’s already adept at. The training he had in architecture, however, has not gone to waste. This young artist’s artworks are akin to organic blueprints created to make sense of a world seen as having gone wrong in many ways.
Ajim draws upon ideas of dystopian realities that many have ended up being in whilst in pursuit of personal utopias. In the process of these pursuits, the important aspects of life that should rightly be the focus remain left by the wayside. The artist sees the lives of these individuals as being neither here nor there, constantly in a state of discontent, yet lost as to what fulfillment truly entails.
If anything, Ajim Juxta is a thinking artist, the existentialist oeuvres that form his thematic approaches taking form as mangled organic matter in his artwork. Constantly analyzing, he is well known to be an artist who writes incessantly, filling notebook after notebook with sketches of possible ideas for future work, complete with lengthy side notes, not unlike those you’d find in design sketches made by idealistic architects aiming to create their own magnum opus, their Sagrada Familia.
