08 Jul Art Jakarta 2017
Formerly known as Bazaar Art Jakarta, Art Jakarta 2017 is the 9th edition of Indonesia’s first and largest art fair. As it has been for the last several editions, the art fair takes place in the Grand Ballroom of Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place. This year the fair will commence on July 27 and runs through the weekend until July 30.
Artemis Art made our debut last year, and this year we return with an expanded selection of works from four emerging visual artists from Indonesia and Malaysia: Dedy Sufriadi, Indra Dodi, Robi Fathoni, and Umibaizurah Mahir.
If you’re on Facebook, you can view our specially created event page for details about our participation in the art fair. Alternatively you may use the QR code provided to access the page.

Over the last few years, Dedy Sufriadi has been regularly featured in our art fair participations. This marks his second appearance in Art Jakarta with Artemis Art following our debut last year.
A distinguishing feature found in his works is the use of text, or elements related to text. One example is the Hypertext series of works, one that continues to evolve over the years, and for which Dedy has developed several variants. The Hypertext series, as the name implies, borrows an idea from the world of IT, namely dynamically linked text or graphics, which allows users to navigate between webpages containing related information across the Internet. In Dedy’s works, text and naïve imagery are used as visual reference points that facilitate the viewer’s imagination and intellect to navigate between ideas and feelings evoked by the abstract expressionist works.
Among his recent artworks exhibited during Art Jakarta 2017 will be those from the Hypertext series, in addition to works from Dedy’s other active series of works.

Continuing from a very successful showing at this year’s Art Central Hong Kong 2017 and his debut at Young Art Taipei 2017, emerging Indonesian artist Indra Dodi joins us as one of the four participating artists in this year’s Art Jakarta 2017.
A natural-born storyteller, just about any event or even conversation may spark an entire series of imageries that eventually find their way onto Indra’s canvas. The selection of works picked for this art fair is no exception, each art piece capturing individuals or objects that have piqued the artist’s interest for one reason or another.

In most cases, the pencil is an important tool for any visual artist, used in the intermediate process of creating artworks, regardless of what medium or mode the final art piece may be. For Indonesian visual artist Robi Fathoni, however, the pencil is the primary medium he uses to create his art. His realist graphite on canvas figurative works has earned him the reputation of being one of the emerging artists of his generation to look out for.
His mastery of the medium is best appreciated through the intricate drawings he produces, done mostly on canvas, usually with black graphite as the primary medium, augmented when necessary with the sparing use of color pencils and occasionally acrylic paint.

This marks the first time Umibaizurah Mahir has collaborated with Artemis Art for an art fair participation.
When the word “ceramics” is mentioned, what most people imagine would likely be ornate traditional household objects and tableware. Any association with, or notion of, contemporary art might just be furthest from what one’s mind may typically conjure. Until, of course, they become acquainted with the clay and ceramics artworks by Umibaizurah Mahir @ Ismail, or Umi for short.
Seeing her work, the idea that Umi pushes the traditional boundaries of ceramics would be an understatement. Over the many years that she has been active, ceramics has successfully been used as a medium to address and tackle many contemporary issues, occurring both domestically and globally.
