28 Dec Andy Firmanto
Born 1976 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Bold swathes of color, yet tempered with care to create a controlled sort of chaos, is how one could possibly characterize Andi’s works on display in this exhibition. His free-flowing lyrical abstract style is sometimes combined with an innocent, almost naive-like sensibility, as seen in some of the artworks.
Taken in isolation, each stroke seems aimlessly wondering the canvas plain, yet when looked at in totality, distinct images adorn each piece of art that Andy creates.
Thematically, Andy’s works explore the notions of love and hope, not only on a personal human level, but also on a more macro level when dealing with issues affecting the environment he lives in.
In recent years, Andy has expanded his repertoire from lyrical abstracts to more figurative works. Of note is the technique utilized in “Air Seni“, where multiple layering of fine paint strands are used to create somewhat whimsical imagery, more figurative yet distinctly showing his abstract leanings
Andy’s works were exhibited as part of the Yogya Invasion 01: Three Degrees of Abstraction group exhibition, held at Artemis Art from July 13 to 31, 2012.
