Hari Ini Dalam (my) Sejarah

It’s been said that grand things often have humble beginnings. And that is certainly true of this exhibition, which began as a conversation between friends, namely journalist and photographer Jahabar Sadiq, and the two individuals behind Artemis Art, U.C. Loh and S. Jamal Al-Idrus.

After Artemis Art staged Jahabar’s solo (plus 1) photography exhibition, Faces & Phases, we were in search of a follow-up project to collaborate on. Hence the conversation. That conversation very quickly escalated into a full-blown group exhibition idea.

But what would we show?

Realizing that CAFFA would begin on September 11, 2015 got us thinking about the significance of the date. Granted for some Malaysians were affected by that tragedy in New York City fourteen years ago, what happened on this day is not about us, as a nation and as a people.

Hari Ini Dalam (my) Sejarah is essentially OUR story, visually retold through the lenses of the photographers featured in the exhibition. Many of the photographs are snapshots of the everyday life we often take for granted. Some are about events that hold special meaning to the photographers. But one thing is for sure – it’s about US. As a nation, and as a people.

Artemis Art takes this opportunity to thank Jahabar for indulging us in that simple conversation, and of course, a big thank you to the talented photographers participating in the exhibition.

The final selection of images, we think, is a superb one, and little did we realize that a simple conversation between friends would result in this grand showing. We now realize what’s often said, is often true…

The works by ten of the eleven photographers participating in this exhibition have been cataloged below, alphabetically according to the photographer’s name.

All prints shown below are available for sale. For enquiries drop us a note, or email us at info@artemisartgallery.com, indicating the photograph title and photographer’s name.
